Who We Are

Abbey Antiques is a family run business based on the outskirts of the historic Cathedral City of Hereford, England.  The business was established in 1945.  We originally specialised in house clearances.  We sold our stock by auction, and also directly to the public and trade through a retail shop.

Edwin Waring, who trained as a watchmaker with "Samuels" prior to the Second World War, founded the business. For over 50 years the business operated along traditional lines. April 19th, 1999 changed all that.  Abbey Antiques registered with eBay.  The eBay phenomena had already caused a sensation within the United States, but was still to be established in the UK.  The abbey team immediately recognised that they had direct  access to a world market-place, and eBay was prioritised as the main outlet for their unique items

eBay is a community founded by Pierre Omidyar.  Pierre's greatest legacy to eBay was the "feedback" system. abbey use the feedback forum as it's advertising platform.  Customer service, and quality of merchandise are paramount.  Our feedback reflects the  standards we are setting, and how much it is appreciated by our customers.  Many of our customers come back time after time for more.  eBay, themselves, have noticed us.  The staff at eBay HQ in London are in regular contact, and offer great encouragement and advice.  They have seen the abbey logo on our delivery vans, and are proud to have us on board.

I am Gary, and I am in charge of the eclectic group.  I read Engineering Science at Oxford University immediately before embarking on the long voyage into the world of antiques and collectables.  It is an exciting world full of bright characters and amazing objects.  You never stop learning, and you only ever scratch the surface.
